Tinctures

These are esoteric readings of playlists. The playlists were made by the author, deliberately sequenced, structurally argued, built to move the listener through a specific initiatory arc. Each one operates simultaneously on two levels that the tradition would recognize immediately: the exoteric and the esoteric.

The exoteric level is real and should not be dismissed. These are beautiful playlists. A person who knows nothing of what you know, who has done none of the work you have done, can put one on and have a genuinely positive experience, feel something, be moved, sense a quality in the sequence without being able to name it. This is the Trojan Horse function. The music is the vehicle. The vehicle is legitimate on its own terms.

The esoteric level is what the documents in this folder address. Each analysis maps the initiatory architecture of its playlist: what each phase is doing, where the sequence is taking the listener, what is being transmitted and why the order matters. This is the knowledge component. It is necessary. It is not sufficient.

They come in three kinds. There are the foundational Tinctures, which ground the whole practice and teach you how to listen; the individual artists and bands, each catalogue read as a single initiatory path; and the genres, whole traditions heard as one continuous arc.
